NATIONAL TASK FORCE

Gujarat University stands in committed partnership with the National Task Force on Student Mental Health and Suicide Prevention, a nationwide initiative constituted by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India on 24 March 2025. The Task Force, chaired by Justice S. Ravindra Bhat (Former Judge, Supreme Court of India), addresses the urgent need to safeguard the mental health and well-being of students in higher education institutions across the country.

This platform reflects the University’s pledge to foster a compassionate and resilient academic environment. Guided by the directives of the National Task Force, the initiative focuses on:

  • Holistic Mental Health Support: Examining and enhancing institutional policies, counselling frameworks, and support systems that influence student mental health and well-being.
  • Suicide Prevention Measures: Developing proactive strategies to reduce student suicides through evidence-based recommendations and community engagement.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Encouraging meaningful participation from faculty, students, parents, mental health professionals, and administrators to create an inclusive, empathetic campus culture.
  • Research and Policy Development: Gathering data through institutional and individual surveys to inform practical, sustainable solutions for mental health challenges in higher education.

Through this initiative, Gujarat University calls upon its community to actively engage in the ongoing dialogues ensuring that every voice contributes to shaping a safe, supportive and thriving academic space.
